The University of Connecticut will test the emergency sirens on its Storrs campus at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1.

The sirens are part of UConn’s emergency notification system, UConnALERT, in which cell phones registered with the system receive text messages during emergencies and when business operations are impacted by weather closings and significant class schedule alterations.

The text message system will not be used during the April 1 test of the Storrs sirens. Although the testing begins at 11 a.m., some or all of the sirens are expected to be activated several times to assess their function and volume.

In an actual emergency, information will be updated regularly through the UConnALERT website. Students, faculty, and staff should visit this site to register for cell phone text alerts, update their contact information, and obtain information related to emergency procedures and campus safety.
