Chair of the Department of Radiology at UConn School of Medicine, Dr. Leo Wolansky, is a Ukrainian-American radiologist. He also happens to be president of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA).
He is sharing his personal story and connection to Ukraine to raise awareness of the country’s critical health and humanitarian needs due to the tremendous crisis resulting from the Russian invasion.
He even wrote a letter to the President of the United States and Congress calling for support of the Ukrainian people in their heroic struggle. The letter he wrote as UMANA President with the organization’s leaders states: “We cannot ignore the obvious health and humanitarian crisis currently faced by Ukraine.”
The letter concludes: “While the temptation to look away is strong, we must courageously face the reality of this moment, and recognize that this barbarous act of war is a threat to all of us and an affront to global peace and democracy.”
Wolansky is also making a strong call to action for his fellow Americans to lend their humanitarian support for the Ukrainian people.
