For the 10th consecutive evaluation period, UConn John Dempsey Hospital earns an “A” hospital safety grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog that measures patient safety.
“Ten straight Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade ‘A’s’ is a reflection of the continued focus on patient safety at UConn Health,” says Dr. Scott Allen, UConn Health’s chief medical officer. “We are committed to a journey of achieving high reliability with the goal of zero harm.”
“We are incredibly proud to receive our tenth consecutive ‘A’ rating from The Leapfrog Group,” says Dr. Andrew Agwunobi, UConn Health CEO and EVP of Health Affairs. “This achievement is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our entire team to patient safety. Earning this recognition for the 10th time reflects the culture of safety that defines UConn Health and our dedication to continuous improvement for the people and communities we serve.”
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to UConn John Dempsey Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
Leapfrog’s program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
