Appointment

Blanka Rogina, a professor in genetics and genome sciences, of the School of Medicine, has been newly elected vice president of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA). Rogina will serve a one-year term in this national leadership position, beginning January 2026. Following the end of her vice president role, Rogina will assume the role of president of the GSA in 2027 and then chair of its Board of Directors in 2028.

Honors

Bodhisattwa Chaudhuri, professor of pharmaceutics, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AAPS) at its 2025 PharmSci 360 meeting. A testament to his sustained impact in the pharmaceutical sciences, Chaudhuri was one of only eight fellows selected worldwide.

Professor Sir Cato T. Laurencin, MD, Ph.D., K.C.S.L, was the 2025 Pariser Global Lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapter of Sigma Xi Society, the Pariser Global Lectureship recognizes researchers worldwide for their capacity to bridge the gap between basic and applied research for the betterment of humanity.

Audrey Barberet, 96, of Storrs, Conn., a former foreign language study advisor who also served as the mayor of Mansfield from 1975-77 – the first woman to hold that office, on Dec. 28.

Carolyn Carlino, 72, of Berlin, Conn, a former clinical office assistant at UConn Health, on Jan. 6.

Gerard Freda, 86, of West Hartford, Conn., a former UConn security officer.

Dr. Daniel Marshall, 102, of Bloomfield, Conn., a former clinical instructor at UConn Health, on Jan. 6.

Luigi Nicolais, 82, of Naples Italy, a former faculty member, on Jan. 12.

Joseph Scott, 76, of South Windsor, Conn., a retired library employee, on Jan. 6.
