Devra Dang Receives the 2026 Dean Robert L. McCarthy Faculty Service Award

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Dean Robert L. McCarthy Faculty Service award is presented to a full-time faculty member who has provided outstanding service to their department, school, the University, the profession of pharmacy, and the public. This year, the recipient of the distinguished award is Devra Dang (Pharm.D.)

Receiving a Pharm.D. from the University of Maryland before completing her pharmacy practice residency at the University of Virginia System and a specialty residency in primary care from the W.G. Magnuson Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health, Devra Dang is a Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at UConn’s School of Pharmacy. In teaching topics like primary care pharmacotherapy, health disparities, and non-prescription medications and self-care, Dang has inspired her students to serve their communities.

During her time at UConn, Dang has been a leader in interprofessional education, service-learning, and public engagement. With more than two decades of impact on the UConn community, she’s been the driving force behind transformative programs such as the IPE service-learning clinics and the Urban Service Track. A pioneer in didactic and experiential teaching of pharmacy students and residents, Dang is part of the core faculty of the Urban Service Track curriculum for several UConn schools. In developing health care professionals dedicated to caring for underserved patients and working in interprofessional teams in this specialized program, Dang is passionate about seeing her communities thrive. 

As a devoted mentor at the School and a national leader in professional organizations, Dang continues to improve access to care for vulnerable populations within the state. Advancing healthcare education, Dang’s service has earned recognition at the university, state, and national levels. She also serves as chair of UConn’s Committee on Interprofessional Excellence in Healthcare, a multi-campus committee consisting of representatives from 11 health professions. 

Practicing at the Burgdorf Primary Care Clinic in Hartford, Dang’s clinical and research interests include innovative interprofessional education and team-based care, chronic disease management of underserved populations, medication adherence, neurodiversity, public health, and medication therapy management in outpatient settings.
