About the American Board of Internal Medicine
Since its founding in 1936, certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) has stood for the highest standard in internal medicine and its 20 subspecialties. Nearly 300,000 physicians are certified by ABIM, representing more than a quarter of all doctors in the United States. Patients whose doctors demonstrate more medical knowledge and judgment through ABIM certification and Maintenance of Certification have better prognoses on a host of outcomes.
