It’s a boy! At UConn John Dempsey Hospital, Shivu Modi of Unionville, Conn., gave birth to her “Prince” named Yuvraj Modi on Feb. 29 at 6 a.m.
The Leap Year baby weighed in at 6 lbs. 4 oz., and is 20 inches long. He arrived eight days early.
Shivu and her husband Nish are overjoyed with the arrival of their baby boy.
“But I hope the baby won’t blame me for only having a birthday every four years,” Shivu said. “I am thinking once every four years we will definitely have to do something very grand for his birthday celebration.”
“He’s always going to remain young with a birthday only every four years,” added Nish.
Yuvraj’s big sister, 5-year-old Jahnvi, can’t wait to help her Mom start caring for her little brother.
“My daughter has it all planned out,” said Shivu. “She says she will feed the baby, but I will be in charge of changing the baby’s diapers since she doesn’t want to get her little hands dirty.”
Dr. Leah Kaye, fellow in reproductive endocrinology at UConn Health, delivered the baby, assisted by Dr. Jenny Grillo-Backman, a resident.
“Mom and baby are doing well,” said Kaye, noting that it was her first delivery of a Leap Year baby. “Every baby’s delivery is a wonderful experience, but this made it all the more special. It will be one to remember.”
