Our students and faculty receive a number of awards and honors; here’s a sample of some of their achievements.

Liisa Kuhn, associate professor of biomedical engineering, was named president-elect of the Society for Biomaterials. The society is a multidisciplinary society of academic, healthcare, governmental and business professionals dedicated to promoting advancements in all aspects of biomaterial science, education and professional standards to enhance human health and quality of life.

Cato Laurencin, professor of material science and engineering, chemical and biomolecular engineering and biomedical engineering, received the Founder’s Award from the Society for Biomaterials at the World Congress of Biomaterials. The Founders Award is based on long-term, landmark contributions to the discipline of biomaterials.

Kathleen Coleman ’16, a recent material science and engineering grad, received the German Center for Research and Innovation Foundation’s inaugural Outstanding Student Engineering Prize. The prize is an opportunity to celebrate student engineering achievement and enhance the visibility of German research and innovation on college campuses. The criteria for the award includes a 3.5 minimum GPA, leadership ability, participation in cutting-edge research, entrepreneurial and innovative activities and engagement in student life activities.
