Every weekday morning during the academic year, UConn students, faculty, staff, and visitors get the latest scoop on the University in the pages and online platforms of the Daily Campus, UConn’s student-run newspaper. But back on May 11, 1896, daily publication was a far-off dream for the eight newshounds who made up editorial board of the brand-new Storrs Agricultural College Lookout. Initially published in broadsheet format on a monthly basis, the Lookout became The Connecticut Campus in 1915 and increased its frequency of publication until becoming a daily in 1952. The paper’s vast archives serve as an irreplaceable record of UConn history, and its continuing success in the Internet age shows that student journalism is just as valuable in 2024 as it was in 1896.
