QCIC Forms Partnership Between Loos & Co. and UConn School of Engineering

QCIC, funded by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA), UConn, and Connecticut Innovations, enables business growth of small and medium-sized technology and manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in rural Tolland, Windham, and New London Counties.

QCIC, funded by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA), UConn, and Connecticut Innovations, enables business growth of small and medium-sized technology and manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in rural Tolland, Windham, and New London Counties. The program brings the latest technology from UConn research to the SME’s by collaborating with faculty who specialize in their area of focus. Projects benefit from the capabilities of the new Proof-of-Concept Center at UConn which is located in Tech Park. They will also have access to the new CT Manufacturing Simulation Center (CMSC) to enable rapid prototyping that will further facilitate growth.

Loos and Company manufactures a wide variety of wire, aircraft cable, and wire rope. These products are used in aerospace, military, and commercial applications, including – aircraft flight controls, elevators, fitness equipment, rigging, and scaffolding operations. They are OEM producers for companies such as Boeing, General Dynamics, and Bombardier. Loos and Company has over 50 years of experience in the wire and cable industry.

Through the partnership, UConn captured analytical data on Loos & Co. products that will help improve the quality and performance. This entailed working in specialized labs for the treatment of samples and sample analyses. The UConn-FEI Center for Advanced Microscopy and Materials Analysis (CAMMA) is one of the labs used to carry out electron microscopy work.
