5,000 Soccer Fans Cheer Huskies’ Win in Big East Opener

A sell-out crowd of more than 5,000 turned out to support the No. 2 Huskies men's soccer team Saturday, as they shut out No. 12 St. John's 2-0.

A sell-out crowd of more than 5,000 fans turned out Saturday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium to support the No. 2 Huskies men’s soccer team as they shut out No. 12 St. John’s, 2-0, in the Big East Conference opener.

Freshman Allando Matheson ’15 (CLAS) scored his second goal of the season for the game winner, and sophomore Mamadou Doudou Diouf ’14 (CLAS) added his sixth goal of the year as UConn recorded its fifth straight shutout. Freshman goalkeeper Andre Blake ’15 (CLAS) needed just one save.

The Huskies improved to 8-0-0 (1-0-0 Big East) while St. John’s dropped to 5-2-1 (0-1-0 Big East).
