Health Center employees got a chance to hear the latest progress report on the Bioscience Connecticut project during town hall meetings held Thursday in Keller Auditorium. (View the presentation.)
While work has been going full steam ahead on all aspects of Bioscience Connecticut, the progress will become very visible by June when ground is broken for the first parking garage. The garage, to be constructed where parking lot I is now, will officially kick off a six-year building bonanza. The entire construction plan consists of seven projects:
- New Patient Tower and Renovations to the existing JDH building
- Renovations to the Main Lab (L) Building (Two projects – 6 phases)
- New Ambulatory Care Center Building
- Medical/Dental School Addition and Renovations to the Academic (A) Building
- Renovations to the Main Clinic (C) Building
- Incubator Lab Addition to the Cell & Genome Sciences Building
Tom Trutter, associate vice president of facilities development and operations, says the final round of the design development work sessions have been completed and design cost estimates for the new hospital tower should be received by April 6 of this year. The actual construction of the new tower is scheduled to begin April 2013.
Here is a timeline of the major phases of construction:
