UConn finished the regular season – the first under head coach Mike Cavanaugh – 15-9-3 to earn the #4 seed and a bye in the AHA playoffs. Robert Morris finished 13-9-5 in AHA play, drew the #5 seed, and beat Army in the first round of the playoffs, 2-1. The Colonials won game one, 8-4, before the Black Knights rebounded for a 4-2 win on Saturday night. RMU won the series Sunday night, erasing an Army 1-0 lead to win the decisive game three, 3-1, and move on to the quarterfinals.

The Huskies and Colonials split their two meetings this season, both in Storrs. UConn got a hat-trick from senior Billy Latta ’14 (CLAS) and a pair of goals from fellow senior Brant Harris ’14 (CLAS) on the way to a 5-1 win. In game two, the Colonials flipped the script, with a 6-1 RMU win.

The all-time series between the two schools is tied 5-5-0, and the Huskies are 4-2-0 at home against the Colonials in Freitas Ice Forum. This will be the second straight season the Huskies and Colonials have met in the AHA postseason. UConn beat Robert Morris in a quarterfinal match-up last season, winning 4-1 and 4-3 at home in Storrs to move on to the AHA semifinals.

In the other three quarterfinal match-ups, #1 seed and regular season champion Mercyhurst will host #8 seed Holy Cross. The #2 seeded Bentley Falcons will play host to the #7 seed Canisius. And the #3 seed Air Force will play host to the #6 seed Niagara.

The four winners will move on to championship weekend in Rochester, N.Y. at the Blue Cross Arena. The AHA semifinals are set for Friday, March 21, and the title game is slated for Saturday, March 22.
