David (Ed) Crow, former senior vice president of UTC Pratt & Whitney and emeritus professor in residence at UConn, has established the D.E. Crow Prize.  The $10,000 prize will be awarded annually to a team of mechanical engineering student inventors in support of commercialization of their inventions.  Awardees will be selected in an Innovation Forum by a panel of angel investors, inventors and faculty.  Innovation and entrepreneurship are key to fueling the U.S. economy.

About Dr. Crow

At Pratt & Whitney, Dr. Crow oversaw the design, development validation and certification of the company’s large commercial engines, military engines and rocket products. He also led research and development of advanced technology systems to meet future aircraft requirements.

In 1998, Dr. Crow as elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering for his leadership in the engineering design of high-bypass-ratio gas turbine engines for aircraft. He was presented the School of Engineering’s Distinguished Service Award in 1999. He is a past secretary of the Society of Automatic Engineers and a member of both the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1972.
