UConn Health’s Michelle Dionne works as the Access & Revenue Cycle Team Lead on the HealthONE team.

On April 6 on the seventh floor of UConn John Dempsey Hospital Michelle was just going about her regular work day preparing for April 2018’s launch of the institution’s new electronic medical record system.

But then she got the most electrifying surprise on record in her lifetime.
Her son, Paul LeMaire, a U.S. Army specialist who she thought was still serving in Afghanistan suddenly appeared in her office. She immediately jumped into his open arms with happiness and joy.

The family’s iPhone video captured the heart-warming reunion which was also reported later in the day on NBC 30. Watch the reunion video, here.

“It was a pleasant surprise and I am so happy that he is home safe. A thank you goes out to all the men and women who service or serviced this country,” proudly shared Michelle.

Paul was released from his 11-month tour of service in Afghanistan a month early. But decided to keep his early homecoming a surprise.

“Knowing how much Michelle treasures family and has anticipated Paul’s safe return, it was so thrilling to have the whole team witness the joy of this reunion,”  said Carolyn Orrell, director of HealthONE, who helped orchestrate the surprise.

It was for sure the best (and early) Mother’s Day present a Mom could ask for. It truly doesn’t get any better than this.

Thanks to all the soldiers, like Paul, for all they do for our country and their Moms like Michelle.
