Congratulations to Dr. Andrew Arnold,  the Murray-Heilig Chair in Molecular Medicine at UConn Healthfor being awarded the International Medal of the Society for Endocrinology. The Society has a long history of honoring individuals who have significantly helped advance endocrinology. The award of a medal by the Society reflects scientific excellence, a wide contribution to the discipline and the high impact of an individual’s research. Dr. Arnold was awarded the medal and presented a plenary lecture during the Society for Endocrinology BES conference last month in Harrogate, England.

UConn Health Physician Assistant Brad Biskup

The American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM) has announced that Brad Biskup is among the 204 physicians and 43 PhD/Masters-level health clinicians who have become the first medical professionals globally to be certified as Diplomates of the ABLM/American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) and the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine. Biskup is a physician assistant in the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center. The exam was given in October following the American College of Lifestyle Medicine’s Lifestyle Medicine 2017 conference.  Lifestyle Medicine, defined by the ACLM, is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches, such as a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet, physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, tobacco cessation, and other non-drug modalities, to prevent, treat, and, oftentimes, reverse chronic disease.

The American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists (AADEJ) Meskin Journalism Award is presented annually to one United States or Canadian dental student publication in recognition of overall excellence in publishing, including editorial content and design.  The University of Connecticut American Student Dental Association’s In The Loupe publication received this honor, which was awarded in October 2017 during the American Dental Association Annual Meeting in Atlanta.  Matthew Lepowsky, Class of 2018 and editor-in-chief of In The Loupe, as well as communications chair and website manager, was presented with two inscribed plaques: one for the dental school, and one as the editor.  The prestigious Meskin Award, whose past recipients have included the nationally-distributed ASDA Mouth, is presented in honor of Dr. Lawrence H. Meskin, editor of the Journal of the American Dental Association for eleven years.
