Dr. Cato T. Laurencin Awarded for Pioneering Research in Bone Regenerative Engineering
Cato T. Laurencin, MD, PhD, was named the 2021 Kappa Delta Ann Doner Vaughn Award recipient by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons for his 30 years of scientific research in musculoskeletal regenerative engineering, the field which he founded and brought to the forefront of translational medicine. Laurencin’s work has led to the development and advancement of biodegradable polymeric materials in bone repair and tissue regeneration. The Kappa Delta Awards recognize research in musculoskeletal disease and injury and Laurencin’s great impact in advancing patient care.
UConn John Dempsey Hospital Designated “Blue Distinction Center” for Maternity Care
“Blue Distinction” is a designation from the BlueCross BlueShield Association for demonstrating expertise and a commitment to quality care for vaginal and cesarean section deliveries, and for better overall patient satisfaction and a lower percentage of early elective deliveries.
UConn John Dempsey Hospital’s recognition with The Blue Distinction Center designation signifies that the maternity care program met nationally established Selection Criteria by demonstrating expertise in delivering quality specialty care, safely and effectively.
Ming Xu 2021 Alumni Award Recipient
Ming Xu, PhD’11, assistant professor in the Department of Genetics & Genome Sciences of UConn Health and the UConn Center on Aging, has been awarded the 2021 Early Career Achievement in Health Professions Alumnus from the University of Kansas Medical Center.
The Alumni Awards process included an incredible field of worthy candidates of which Xu was one of nine outstanding awardees for his commitment to his community and contributions to advance the field of health care. The KU Medical, Nurses and Health Professions Alumni Associations will present the award during Alumni Reunion Weekend, October 1-2, 2021.
