Saturday May 6 was a big day for hundreds of undergraduate students at UConn’s College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR). For many, this marked the end of their academic journeys at the University of Connecticut. For others, it’s the first step towards attaining additional degrees and certifications. For all of the graduates, Commencement signals the accomplishment of a lifetime and the transition from current student to alumni.

“We are so proud of this year’s wave of CAHNR graduates,” says Dean Indrajeet Chaubey. “We know they have the ability to change the world, because we’ve already gotten a small glimpse of what they are capable of during their time at CAHNR. We are so excited to see all that comes next for them.”

CAHNR Commencement Reception & Processional

CAHNR’s Commencement festivities kicked off with a reception for families and a gathering in the UConn Field House before a processional into Gampel Pavilion. The excitement and the emotions were on full display, as well as some impressive regalia.

The Big Event

Once in Gampel, students were joined by CAHNR faculty and staff who volunteer each year to be a part of this exciting day for students, their families, and the College. This year’s addresses were delivered by Kasidy Quiles ’23 (Allied Health Sciences) from Shelton and Janie Simms Hipp, General Counsel for the United States Department of Agriculture.

Simms Hipp urged grads to consider not only themselves, but those they will impact in their personal and professional lives.

“It isn’t all about you. It’s about the people you serve and the people you help and the people you meet along the way. And it’s about the service that you provide to others. As you climb the ladder of your own life, please help others climb theirs.”

Dean Indrajeet Chaubey and other CAHNR administrators also celebrated the new graduates.

The Next Chapter

After the ceremony, students and their loved ones connected outside Gampel for photos to commemorate the day and the achievements it reflects. Their journey starts now!
