On April 29 The Brain and Spine Institute at UConn Health officially opened its new building’s doors and its comprehensive services at 5 Munson Road, a short walk from UConn Health’s main Farmington campus.
The Brain and Spine Institute, established in 2021, now offers its coordinated outpatient care in one dedicated location for neurology, cranial neurosurgery, comprehensive spine care, and even radiology.
The Institute also houses the first location of UConn Health Imaging, a free-standing, nonhospital outpatient imaging facility offering MRI, CT scan, X-ray, bone density and breast mammogram and ultrasound imaging services.
UConn Health Imaging will support The Institute and also accept referrals from UConn Health and community physicians alike for its full range of radiology services.
“The new Brain and Spine Institute building’s opening represents UConn Health’s unprecedented growth in patient care,” says UConn Health Interim CEO Dr. Bruce T. Liang. “This new building has been a monumental team effort and years in the making. Thanks to everyone at UConn Health who contributed to making this state-of-the-art facility possible for our patients along with its advanced and convenient imaging capabilities.”
In addition to brain and spine care, the Institute’s comprehensive neurology patient care services include multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, epilepsy, headache, and stroke care. Plus, neurology patients in need of normal pressure hydrocephalus, deep brain stimulation, and epilepsy surgery treatment will also be cared for inside the new Institute.
“The Brain and Spine Institute’s dedicated new building will provide an integrated experience for our patients and increased collaboration for our faculty and staff in an exceptional facility,” says Anne Horbatuck, chief operating officer of the UConn Medical Group and vice president for ambulatory operations. “We are very excited to have all of these specialties now in one location. UConn Health’s expanding Brain and Spine Institute is able to meet any patient’s health care needs.”
