Dr. George Kuchel to Serve on the NIH National Advisory Council on Aging

Dr. George Kuchel has been invited by Xavier Becerra, The Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to serve on the National Advisory Council on Aging.

Dr. George Kuchel, Professor of Medicine, Director of the UConn Center on Aging and the NIA UConn Older Americans Independence Pepper Center, UConn Health, has been invited by Xavier Becerra, The Secretary, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to serve on the National Advisory Council on Aging (NACA) for a 3-year term beginning January 1, 2025.

NACA advises the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Director of NIH and the Director of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) on its mission. The Council meets three times a year to consider applications for research and training grants.

Dr Kuchel commented “I am honored to be appointed to this position. NIA has just celebrated its 50th anniversary. To date, no entity has done more to improve the lives of older adults through research across the US and far beyond. Moreover, the multidisciplinary vision that led to the establishment of NIA Divisions involving Geriatrics and Clinical Gerontology, Biology of Aging, Neuroscience, as well as Behavioral and Social Research continues to inspire all of our work in aging at UConn.”
