Former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell, USA (Ret.) was the keynote speaker at a dinner in New York on Oct. 28, kicking off the World Youth Peace Summit, which will be held in Connecticut in the summer of 2011 with UConn serving as host institution. University President Michael Hogan and Provost Peter Nicholls attended the event.

The summit is a major initiative of the Institute for International Sport, a non-profit organization that has organized many U.S. and World Scholar-Athlete Games during the past 25 years, with the goal of promoting peace through the medium of sports and the arts. Nearly 20,000 are expected to participate in the 2011 summit.
