Following the June 29 groundbreaking of the Storrs Center project, the Mansfield Downtown Partnership has provided an approximate timeline for actions anticipated over the next year. As always with construction projects, especially those that are unusually complex, the timeline is provisional.

July 2011
Demolition of former UConn Publications building, 13 Dog Lane (former Select Physical Therapy Building), and 14 Dog Lane (former home of UConn’s Nayden Health Clinic).  These operations are now located in other facilities. (This has already taken place.)

Construction begins on the north side of Dog Lane, with the first foundation at the corner of Dog Lane and Storrs Road (Route 195). The building under construction, scheduled to open in August 2012, will include about 27,000 square feet of commercial space that will house some current businesses and some new enterprises, and 127 market-rate apartments.

July-August 2011
Additional parking is being built by the developer on the lot for the Bishop Center, so that parking will be available closer to the new facilities. This is scheduled for completion before the students move into Buckley and Shippee residence halls in August.

Late summer 2011
Construction begins on a new parking garage, to open by August 2012.

Fall 2011
Construction begins on “Village Street,” an interior street in Storrs Center that will parallel Storrs Road.

Streetscape improvements on Storrs Road and Dog Lane, to be completed in spring 2012.

February 2012
Construction begins on the “intermodal” transportation center adjacent to the parking garage. This will be designed to accommodate bus, auto, bicycle, and other modes of transportation.

Spring 2012
Tedeschi’s and Storrs Automotive buildings will be demolished. Storrs Automotive will move into the facilities currently being constructed.

Construction begins on approximately 42,000 square feet of additional commercial space and 160 apartments. This is scheduled to open in fall 2013.
