Football to Hold Open Practice Sessions

Fans can preview 2011 Husky football at three open practices, beginning Aug. 9.

Husky fans will have the opportunity to get a preview of the 2011 football team during three open practice sessions, beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

The other two practices will be: Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 20 from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. All three practices will be held on the practice fields behind the old Memorial Stadium, off Alumni Drive. Free parking for these practices will be available in “D” lot.

Connecticut went 8-5 last season after earning its first-ever Bowl Championship Series bid, and tied for the league championship.

West Virginia has been tabbed as the favorite to win the 2011 title in the conference’s annual preseason media poll, a year after winning a share of its sixth Big East Championship. UConn, which won a share of its second Big East title in four years, was picked sixth in the preseason poll with 76 points.

Head coach Paul Pasqualoni enters his first year with the Huskies, but holds the distinction of having the most Big East wins of any coach in league history from his 14-year career at Syracuse.
