Environmental Impact Public Meeting Scheduled for Bioscience Connecticut and Jackson Lab Projects

The assessment looks at each construction project in detail from water to wildlife issues.

A public meeting on the environmental impact of the Bioscience Connecticut and Jackson Lab projects will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, at 16 Munson Road in Farmington.

The Environmental Impact Evaluation (EIE) is a comprehensive assessment that looks at each construction project in detail, from sewer and water issues to the impact on wildlife and fauna on the Health Center campus and surrounding areas. The meeting will give members of the community an opportunity to learn more about these issues and ask questions. Thomas Callahan, vice president and strategy officer for Bioscience Connecticut, and Thomas Trutter, associate vice president of facilities development and operations, will lead the discussion.

The Bioscience Connecticut project includes the construction of a new hospital bed tower, ambulatory care center, research laboratory facility, three parking garages, additional surface parking, and related site work. The capital improvement program also includes renovations and infrastructure improvements to the Health Center to support patient, educational, and research activities.

The project will take place on the upper campus to the north east, and west of John Dempsey Hospital on existing paved areas, and on the lower campus in the general vicinity of the existing Dowling Buildings and the Medical Arts Research Building. The project will play an important strategic role in further positioning the Health Center as a top medical research and education institution and enhancing patient care services.
