The U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Team, led by six former Huskies and coached by Geno Auriemma, won its unprecedented fifth-consecutive Olympic gold medal on Saturday in London, defeating France 86-50. The USA women have a 41-game Olympic winning streak that began with the 1992 bronze medal game.

The former Huskies include Sue Bird ’02 (CLAS) and Diana Taurasi ’05 (CLAS), who won their third gold medals; Swin Cash ’02 (CLAS), who won her second gold medal; and three first-time gold winners: Tina Charles ’10 (CLAS), Maya Moore ’11 (CLAS), and Asjha Jones ’02 (BUS).
