UConn Women Celebrated as The 100 Women of Color

This Black History Month three women from the University of Connecticut have been named as this year's 100 Women of Color for their impact on the community. They will be honored at The 100 Women of Color Gala & Awards on June 24.

Three UConn women being celebrated as this year’s 100 Women of Color for their community impact efforts are (left to right) Stacey L. Brown, Ph.D., of Public Health Sciences at UConn School of Medicine; Regina Lester-Harriat, LMSW of the UConn School of Social Work; and Janel S. Simpson, MBA, of the leadership team at UConn Health.

Three women from UConn will be honored for their impact on the community at The 100 Women of Color Gala & Awards on June 24 at the Simsbury Meadows Performing Arts Center.

The honorees from UConn and UConn Health include:

  • Janel S. Simpson, MBA, chief administrative officer, UConn Health
  • Stacey L. Brown, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Public Health Sciences, UConn School of Medicine
  • Regina Lester-Harriat, LMSW, assistant professor in residence, UConn School of Social Work

The event, organized by June Archer & Eleven28 Entertainment, will recognize the contributions of UConn’s honorees on the lives of people and other women in the State of Connecticut. Also, other women of color will be recognized from across the fields of business, education, entrepreneurship, entertainment, government, and public service.

The gala’s goal is to provide financial support for programs that support the advancement of young women of color. Event proceeds will support scholarships for young women who graduate from high school and plan on attending College, leadership and mentorship programs.

“These women should be celebrated,” shared event organizer June Archer of Eleven28 Entertainment. “We believe these individuals should be honored for their achievements and celebrated for their accomplishments, along with their family, friends and support networks.”

“I am honored to be recognized along with 99 other women of color who are held in high esteem by their colleagues and communities,” said Regina Lester-Harriat, LMSW, of the School of Social Work.

Fellow honoree Stacey L. Brown, Ph.D., of UConn School of Medicine agrees.

“To be honored in this manner is heartwarming in and of itself, but to be included among two other UConn women is particularly wonderful,” said Brown.
