Alumni Focus: Alex Bernier

"I have no hesitation in saying the education and experiences I received at UConn prepared me well for my career in engineering," says UConn Engineering alumnus Alex Bernier (B.S. Civil Engineering, '10) who continued for a master's degree in Transportation and Urban Engineering.

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Anson Ma

Dr. Anson Ma has received an NSF EAGER grant for his research aimed at understanding how nanoparticles flow in the bloodstream, with the goal of determining whether nanoparticles can be employed to improve the delivery of cancer-fighting drugs to tumors while reducing the toxic side effects to normal tissues.

Biomedical Engineering Department Approved

In late September, UConn's Board of Trustees approved a plan to establish a formal Department of Biomedical Engineering. The new department will be jointly created, administered and sustained at the Storrs campus by the School of Engineering, the School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine at the UConn Health Center, Farmington.

Alumni Association Honors Two from Engineering

Professor Quing Zhu (ECE) and alumnus Faisal Hossain (Ph.D. '04) were honored by the UConn Alumni Association with the 2012 Faculty Excellence in Research and Creativity (Sciences) award, and a Graduate of the Last Decade award, respectively, during a gala event on October 12th.

FeelGood: Helping to End Hunger

FeelGood is a creative, student-led movement that raises money and awareness for the end of global hunger by running non-profit, on-campus grilled cheese delis, and there's a UConn chapter now! Their motto: Hunger can be and must be ended in our lifetime.
