UConn-Sikorsky Team Engineers Autonomous Firefighting Drone
Working with mentors from Sikorsky, three University of Connecticut engineering seniors translated their classroom education to the field. Electrical engineering majors Kerry Jones and Joshua Steil, and computer engineering major Ryan Heilemann, collaborated to build and program an autonomous firefighting drone to battle blazes without a pilot’s guidance.

The daughter of an optometrist and a Farmington native, MSE alumna and Connecticut businesswoman Stephanie Higgins Bealing is using her materials science and engineering experience to push the gauntlet on the eyeglasses industry, winning her numerous awards, getting herself named as one of Connecticut’s 40 under 40, and netting her national recognition for her business, Replacement Lens Express.

As part of a synthesis of resources, Dr. Cato Laurencin announced the creation of the Connecticut Convergence Institute for Translation in Regenerative Engineering as a Type 2 Center in the SOM from the merger of the Institute for Regenerative Engineering (IRE) and the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (CICATS) at UConn.
